Pathetic could be another one. The 49ers are hurt by injuries, and are still a young team, but they are also in the second year of their rebuild. Teams like the Cardinals should be beat. In San Francisco no less. There�s way too much we�ve learned watching this blunder, so this is more like I�ve put it all in a hat and drew three things we learned. C.J. Beathard is one of the unluckiest quarterbacks to play the gameThe 49ers backup quarterback has his own share of blame for how things ended on Sunday, but we can�t pile it all on him. Beathard isn�t taking the team to a Super Bowl, or the playoffs, or maybe even another win if he�s going to keep getting stripped like that. He at least can put together a drive or two Womens Kyle Juszczyk Jersey , nothing more evident than the opening drive on Sunday. Marching down the field, punching it in, all one had to think was this was a sign of a great game by the 49ers. Then his second drive he threw a ball to Pierre Gar莽on that was batted away. By Pierre Gar莽on. Of course it results in an interception and things get worse from there. The NFL is a passing league. You aren�t going to go well if you can�t pass. To Beathard�s credit he�s thrown some decent passes, if only his pass-catchers could catch it. This isn�t cleaning Beathard of any blame. He had some very strange throws and held the ball far too long. The 49ers defensive performance is a mirage to a bad Cardinals offenseThe 49ers may be preaching violence. But it�s probably that cartoon violence you see on the crummy cartoons that came on weekday mornings just to get you to go to school.The 49ers defense had minor improvements against a putrid offense. Don�t let the Cardinals fool you�that is not a good offense at the moment. Just because the Cardinals couldn�t convert 3rd downs is more on them and less on the 49ers defense. Besides the opening play of the Cardinals which led to a monster touchdown, this game rests more on the lack of execution on the 49ers offense than anything they did on defense. Raheem Mostert is a much better gunner than a runner Mostert was one of the contestants playing �Cough it to the Cardinals� flipping a ball to the defense which led to the second Cardinals touchdown of the day. The fumble itself was a result of Matt Breida being injured. Had Breida been not been getting checked out for his ankle injury, he may have been the one in the game. Mostert had a fumble in the preseason and also fumbled on one of his few carries in 2017. It all means one thing: Mostert can�t be trusted with the ball. He�s a much better gunner than a runner on special teams. His value on special teams cannot be overstated. As a piece on offense? The 49ers need a new third running back. Mostert isn�t it. C.J. Beathard is a career backup, if thatI said that Beathard was the best chance for the team to run Kyle Shanahan�s offense. I still stand by that statement, but he also isn�t going to give the 49ers the best chance to win. Twice Beathard had the ball stripped from his hands and both times they are on him for holding the ball too long and not A) taking off or B) throwing it away. That�s two of the five turnovers. I have nothing more to say on this than you aren�t going to win a game with five turnovers. Especially when half your team is on IR. And we haven�t even gotten to the interceptions yet. One was not on him. The other was just bad. At least he isn�t Nathan Peterman, but Beathard is not going to go Nick Foles and help emerge as a threatening quarterback. Goal line passes, two-point conversions, wide-open-between-the-numbers, you name it, the 49ers couldn�t catch it. I think catching a cold is easier than what they were trying to do. Which makes one wonder. They can�t wrap up, they can�t catch. What are the 49ers practicing? Besides Kyle Shanahan�s hard offense. Some of these catches, like Cole Wick�s dropped touchdown catch, were so obvious and easy the foghorn (that goes off with every 49ers TD at home) went off for a brief moment until everyone realized it was a drop. The guy announcing everything says with this smug grin Jimmy Garoppolo Jersey , �Well, third time�s a charm.� I hope I can speak for most everyone when I say nobody likes commercials at face value. They are a necessary evil to a football game unless it�s the Super Bowl, beer, or a strutting pony. Car commercials are oftentimes the absolute worst. Teasing me the end of a commercial twice and then giving me some smug �not my fault� look on the third does the opposite of making me a customer.Chevrolet trolled me hard during with this �series� of commercials. It didn�t help that the 49ers were losing when they hit. Ian Williams spent six years playing along the defensive line for the San Francisco 49ers. His final year with the 49ers was DeForest Buckner�s first with the team after being selected in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft.Buckner is coming off a career year for the 49ers. He had 12 sacks last year for San Francisco after combining for just nine in his first two seasons combined. He now has additional firepower around him on the 49ers defensive front as well following the offseason acquisition of Dee Ford from Kansas City and the selection of Nick Bosa in the first round of this year�s draft.Williams, now an analyst for NBC Sports Bay Area, believes that less could now prove to be even more for Buckner and the 49ers.�I hope they cut down on his reps this season because it starts to show later on in a game and later on in the season,� Williams said of Buckner, via Matt Maiocco. �He can take some of these reps off.�Buckner played on 852 of the 49ers 1,073 defensive snaps last season with an additional 164 reps on special teams. Only linebacker Fred Warner was on the field more often than Buckner was in 2018 Roger Craig Jersey White , per Pro Football Reference.With Buckner, Ford, Bosa, Solomon Thomas and Arik Armstead along the defensive line in 2019, the 49ers should have more flexibility to dial back Buckner�s reps and maintain a similar standard of performance.�They�re in prime position to showcase their talents. This is a position many have screamed for them to address and lo and behold, they finally did.If you�re still wondering exactly what Dallas got from their new man in the middle then you might want to listen to the latest episode of The Ocho where Jeff Sharon of SB Nation�s Black and Gold Banneret joined me to give us the details on Rod Marinelli�s new toy. They have a draft profile up on Hill that�s worth checking out, too.Among the many things that Jeff shared, for those who are unaware, is that one of Hill�s more incredible plays while at UCF last season didn�t even happen on defense. With the Knights trailing and needing a huge fourth-down conversion they gambled on a short-yardage situation. They decided to run the ball (whoa that sounds familiar) behind the fortress that is Trysten Hill.The play led to a huge UCF touchdown which turned into a thrilling victory for them. We�ve seen defensive tackles used as blockers before, but so rarely when it works out in epic fashion. As Jeff notes, it speaks to Hills versatility as an athlete, his willingness to do whatever it takes to help his team win (Jason Garrett is smiling), and basically how awesome he is at anything he does. He even shared the play with a fun edit afterwards.A lot has been said about Hill�s immaturity, but I thought that Jeff brought up a great comparison when he mentioned the movie Miracle and how Jim Craig refused to take the psychology tests that Team USA coach Herb Brooks was administering to the team. If you haven�t seen the film, Craig is the goalie for the team and simply wants to do that - play goalie. He doesn�t see the purpose in taking a psychology test and is somewhat reprimanded for it.Later on Demarcus Lawrence Jersey White , during a confrontation between Craig and Brooks, the former succumbs and says that he�ll take whatever test he has to in order to play. That�s when Brooks tells him that he no longer wants to see him take the test, he wants to see the guy that wouldn�t take the test play for him. This isn�t an exact comparison to what Trysten Hill experience at UCF, but considering he underwent a coaching change that wanted him to do something different, it�s comparable. He wants to play defensive tackle and destroy the pocket. That�s probably why Rod Marinelli likes him so much.A big thanks to Jeff and the Black and Gold Banneret for taking some time to educate us on who Trysten Hill is and the things that make him special. He also threw a large amount of kudos in the direction of Tony Pollard, who UCF played twice last season. He was hard for them to stop, although not too tough for his brand new teammate.Imagine Trysten blocking for Zeke! For seven seasons, Cole Beasley was beloved in Dallas. He grew up in a suburb north of Dallas, played at SMU and became a big part of the Cowboys offense despite being only 5 foot 8 and going undrafted.Now, though, he is the enemy.Unafraid to speak his mind on social media or in interviews, Beasley has rubbed Cowboys Nation the wrong way since he signed a four-year Womens Amari Cooper Jersey , $29 million deal with the Bills. Dallas offered Beasley a contract but didn�t value the position as much as the Bills did, with the Cowboys instead signing free agent Randall Cobb to a one-year, $5 million deal.The Cowboys �didn�t value the slot position like they do here,� Beasley said, via Tim Graham of TheAthletic.com. �That�s a big reason why I left. While the official 2019 NFL schedule will not be released until April Malik Hooker Jersey , every team officially knows who they will play next season. In 2018, the Indianapolis Colts enjoyed one of the easiest strengths of schedule and it certainly helped to get on a roll to an unlikely playoff berth. While every season is different and dominant teams in one year can fall apart in the next, Indianapolis currently faces a schedule that includes 5 games against playoff teams, 4 of them will be on the road. Those games include visiting the New Orleans Saints (13-3), Kansas City Chiefs (12-4), Los Angeles Chargers (12-4), and Houston Texans (11-5). They will play 8 games against teams with a winning record in 2018, adding a road match up against the Pittsburgh Steelers (9-6-1) and a two-way meeting with the Tennessee Titans (9-7).Even some of the home games against teams with a 2018 losing record could be very challenging. The Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos all have traits that make them a threat to win any game � and a history of not maintaining a streak of losing seasons for very long.Ultimately Peyton Manning Jersey , there are few match ups on the 2019 schedule that one can mark down as a likely win with complete confidence. He really struggled in 2018 overall but I do believe that the Colts� valued him mostly for his versatility. He lined up all over the place for the Browns for this past season. In the six games I watched, I saw him line up at outside cornerback, slot cornerback, deep safety, box safety, linebacker Darius Leonard Jersey , and he played a ton of special teams as well. This versatility is certainly something the Colts value. This first clip showcases him lined up as a deep safety. Overall this is likely his weakest area as he struggles with his instincts and feel on the backend (which we will discuss later). He does a good job of coming downhill though and can make plays in the run game or in the short passing game from this area of the field as he does on this play. This next play has him lined up in the box as the box safety/linebacker role. This role is likely his best one as his instincts and speed limitations are hidden. He is a physical player and does a good job of being patient and hitting tight ends off the line. He needs to be stronger in run defense in terms of setting an edge and disengaging from blockers but overall he is decent in this role.This last clip shows him on special teams. He is solid in this area. On kick teams he is a good tackler who stays home on the outside and doesn�t allow big plays. On punt team, he displays great effort all around and makes key blocks or tackles when needed. Here he is coming down the right side and is able to track down the returner for the tackle. Effort/EnergyHow does a player make up for not being the most talented or instinctual player on the field? By giving effort on every single play. He is always involved in the action. For a team like the Colts who preach a swarm mentality on defense, his mindset should fit in nicely. If he were to ever see defensive snaps, the way he hustles on every play would be right in line with the rest of the defense.This first clip has Kindred starting off as an edge rusher of all positions. He drops into zone coverage near the sideline as the ball is snapped. Once he sees Deshaun Watson start rolling out of the pocket, he starts to come downhill out of his zone. He doesn�t stop in his pursuit until he comes away with the tackle just a couple yards down the field. This is good pursuit by Kindred and a solid tackle in open space.This next clip he travels quite a bit. He drops again into zone coverage out of his spot near the line of scrimmage at the snap. Once he sees Watson roll out of the pocket, he comes downfield to stop the run. Watson is able to find his receiver about ten yards away but Kindred continues his pursuit as he turns around and races towards the receiver to push him out of bounds. This is really good pursuit and effort.WeaknessesLike I mentioned earlier, I didn�t see too many strengths in his game from watching his 2018 film. The biggest concerns I had though were his tackling and his struggles in coverage. In terms of run defense, he scored a 42.8 grade in run defense and a 36 grade in tackling according to Pro Football Focus. PFF also noted that he missed 10 tackles while only making 34 solo tackles on the year. That is one missed tackle for around every three made tackles on the season.In terms of coverage, it wasn�t much better. He graded out with a 52.5 overall grade in this department on the year. He allowed 19 catches on 24 targets for 266 yards and 2 touchdowns on the season as the primary player in coverage. This first clip shows my main concern with his tackling. He isn�t a soft by any means but he struggles to line up his target and make good, clean tackles. He prefers to lunge at runner�s legs which results in many missed tackles. Here he dives for Marshawn Lynch�s legs which results in the miss and extra yards for the offense.In coverage, he had his fair share of struggles as well. In the box Malik Hooker Jersey White , he struggled with diagnosing play-action and would lose his man quite a bit in man coverage. I think he has the strength and physicality to match up well in man but his instincts, ability to diagnose the play, and speed are concerns for me. Here he gets fooled by the play-fake and allows a reception over the middle.His lack of instincts in deep coverage are also very worrisome. He often is slow to react or makes the wrong reads when tasked with playing half the field or in single high. Here he gets caught looking at the inside route and the Raiders are able to hit the streak on the sideline where he should be in coverage. ConclusionDerrick Kindred is a decent addition that really doesn�t push the needle at all for the Colts. He is a young player who had some success in 2017 before regressing a bit in 2018. The Colts likely are hoping that he will return to the success he had in 2017 with a more simplified scheme� Gregg Williams runs a very different scheme from the rest of the NFL to put it nicely� and better overall coaches on staff to help with development. I already know what some comments will say about this film room. �Why sign a safety who can�t cover or tackle?� I get the concerns with Kindred and think that currently he could be cut before next season even starts. There is no harm in claiming him though. Add bodies and depth to an already solid roster and push for competition.If, big if, Kindred can return to form, then this is a great waiver pickup. If not, there is no risk and he can be easily cut. Overall though I do like Ballard�s approach to continually add talent and depth to this roster. Bringing in more competition can only strengthen the locker room and build on an already great foundation. Just a low risk addition overall that could pan out long-term much like how Kenny Moore II and Pierre Desir have since they were claimed off of waivers before.

Many backup spots are still available as a few players are battling it out as final roster cuts loom. Here�s a few that we�re paying close attention to.Dwayne Washington vs. Devine OzigboThe competition for third string running back may not be the most glamorous of position battles, but it is one of the tightest competitions. The incumbent Washington has proven his ability to contribute on special teams, but doesn�t offer much upside as a runner or receiver out of the backfield. Against the Jets he had two dropped passes, and last week against the Los Angeles Chargers had a pass bounce off his hands go for an interception. Ozigbo, an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska, has shown a willingness to fight for extra yards and good decision making as a runner.He�s also shown the ability to create explosive plays and make defenders miss when given the ball in space.Since the first preseason game Ozigbo has seen his snap count steadily increase each week (9, 22, 28 respectively) not only on offense Womens Alvin Kamara Jersey , but more importantly on special teams (9 in Week 1 compared to 15 in Week 3).This bodes well for his chances to make the 53-man roster, as Washington has been a key member of both special team units, but may be out of a job soon if Ozigbo continues to show his versatility. Dan Arnold vs. A.J. DerbyAnother third string position battle, this one just heated up with Garrett Griffin getting his ankle rolled on and being carted off the sideline. While Arnold is a flex tight end and Derby is more of a traditional inline end the team may not be able to keep both based on the amount of depth at other positions, especially wide receiver. Arnold is entering his third season in the NFL where he came in as a UDFA and shortly after converted from wide receiver to tight end. There�s been plenty of growing pains for the 6�6� tight end, most notably a number of dropped passes, both last season and this preseason. Despite this, Arnold led all tight ends in snaps against the Jets with 29 and made the most of his extended playing time. On six targets he was able to make five receptions for 83 yards after a failing to make a single catch against the Chargers.Derby meanwhile has been in the league for five years and has bounced around between four different teams. Unlike Arnold Michael Thomas Saints Jersey , Derby converted from quarterback to tight end while in college at Arkansas and has more experience lining up inline and being used in the run game. While the stat sheet may only show one reception against the Jets, he had another nice grab erased by a penalty as well as a tackle on special teams. Rookie Alize Mack may still have a shot at making the team, but with missing so much time this preseason he looks to be a good candidate for the practice squad. Its possible the Saints keep four tight ends, but with the depth at wide receiver they may be forced to keep only three. If so, Arnold and Derby have one more game to convince the coaches they can help the team. The last time Antonio Brown became a free agent, he wasn�t free for long. This time around, he may be waiting for a while.Add the Saints to the list of teams that don�t seem to be interested in signing AB.�I think right now, where we sit Marcus Davenport Jersey , I like our depth at that position,� Saints coach Sean Payton told reporters on Friday, when asked about Brown. �I haven�t really paid much attention to the other teams and hadn�t heard that yet. But, it is what it is. I am focused really on the guys that are here and I thought we had a good week at that position specifically. Colts Linebackers vs. Raiders Tight EndsThe Colts linebackers were abysmal covering the Raiders� tight ends on Sunday. Walker and Okereke looked completely out of their element when asked to play zone coverage and the Raiders tight ends had an absolute field day. Derek Carr was 10/11 when targeting his tight ends and got 83 yards and a score. Sure Malik Hooker Jersey White , the Colts were without Darius Leonard, and Walker was forced to play out of position, but allowing those kind of numbers is inexcusable for a team with supposed playoff aspirations.Like Kevin Bowen says, the coverage the Colts played here is horrible, especially considering the fact it was the 4th quarter, and if the Colts had stopped the Raiders there they would have had excellent field position. Instead, Foster Moreau was left wide open right in the middle of the field and got an easy first down. Taking a look at the play, Anthony Walker drifts right way too soon, leaving a huge opening on the middle that Carr took advantage of.It seemed as if the Colts whole defense was trying to prevent the big play throughout the whole game, and trying to play �bend but don't break� defense, however, when the opposing team can get an easy 5/6 yards on every single down, preventing the big play does not matter that much anymore. With a match-up against Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce coming up, we have to hope that Darius Leonard is ready to go; otherwise Womens Peyton Manning Jersey , a few NFL records might be broken on SNF.Denico Autry vs. Both Raiders� Right GuardsWith Raiders� starting right guard Gabe Jackson out with a knee injury, Autry had a juicy match-up against veteran Jordan Devey. Autry was a player I thought would have a breakout season after a solid last year. Jacoby�s RocketsDespite many people claiming that this receiver group is horrible (even though it is certainly not very good without T.Y, a part of the blame has to be put on Jacoby repeating his old tendency of putting way too much zip on the ball on short, simple passes. Sure, NFL caliber receivers have to be able to catch a pass that hits them in the hands, but Jacoby looked like he got a bit rattled at times and threw the ball with more power than needed.Trent Brown vs. Jabaal SheardThis is a match-up that I think the Colts won, even though it was not that influential. I saw Sheard (albeit in limited snaps) going against a solid tackle while coming off a knee injury, and he played good football. He had a couple of nice run stops here and there and seemed to get pressure on Carr a few times. His return to form will be key for the Colts defense moving forward. While this is a solid fallback plan, the team should be looking ahead to the future to fill out their offensive line depth. Tyron Smith is still under contract for a while, but he has a lot of mileage and you can pretty much set your watch to the idea that he�ll miss three games during the season. With so many young stars coming up on second contracts, will Jones will included with them? The Cowboy may decide to take a less expensive route and that would involve reloading through the draft.
